The focus of the livelihood programming is mostly in the marginalized areas like the Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (ASALs), the Urban areas and potential areas falling into the vulnerability bracket due to climatic and man-made changes.
This includes a multi hazard approach in both urban and rural settings DRR programming with Climate Change Adaptation lens. The thematic focus includes building the community’s’ understanding of disasters and increase their capacity in preparedness and response.
This area focusses on institutional preparedness for response and the coordination of response operations countrywide. High level interventions will be around; contingency planning and reviews, surveillance and early detection of potential disasters, activation of response actions and coordinating with other partners.
This is an engineering responsible for facilitation of designing and execution of hardware installations either for emergency response or livelihood and resilience actions by the Society. It is responsible for the evaluations and supervision of contractual undertaking with external contractors, feasibility studies and technical appraisals of infrastructure investments within Disaster Management.
This is the preparedness and response actions of the Society for disasters that are health-facing in nature and similar tools and approaches that are health focused handled in alignment with the National, regional and county priorities, guidelines and policies
The restoring and maintaining of family links (RFL) remains a key component of Disaster Management (DM) for the organization and this theme is coordinated both during emergencies and also within the refugee operations. Normal RFL programs will continue under DM and the cooperating partners as it has been over the years without interruptions
Kenya Red Cross has two refugee operation programmes in both Dadaab, Garissa and Kalobeyei in Turkana. This operation is in partnership with UNHCR and will continue under the Auspices of the DM Department with supported structures based within the respective camps.
