Accelerated Measles Vaccination Campaign
A vaccination campaign against measles was conducted in the five counties of Tana River, Marsabit, Samburu, Mandera and Turkana. The initiative kicked off in January 2018 and was funded by the World Health Organization, meant to improve on life saving measles indicators.
Each of the five counties has ten static sites through which the campaign was conducted. The four key campaign areas were: Sensitization and registration of eligible children; Mobilization to the link facilities; Micro planning within the catchment population and Actual immunization.
This followed a concluded Catch-up campaign on critical lifesaving indicators that reached 327,889 people spread across 11 target counties. It provided integrated medical outreaches, which included vaccination against measles.
The ongoing measles campaign, therefore, leveraged on the catchup campaign, easing understanding on the status of indicators and targeting. The counties that had already kicked off activities were Tana River, Samburu and Marsabit. Similar activities were actively started in the two remaining counties.
