Dr. James Kisia is the Executive Director and CEO of the Centre for Medical Mobilization Board (CMMB Kenya), a local health NGO working in fourteen counties in Kenya. James has had a distinguished, more than 25 years, career as a clinician and health care and programming executive. He is a strategic visionary who enjoys the difficult tasks of start-ups and turn-around within organizations.  He has driven desired change within CMMB Kenya from an international NGO (part of CMMB Inc in NY) to a local entity with a Kenyan Board and Kenyan registration in the last year.

James has worked and published in key areas of community and global health, including health systems strengthening, the role of community health workers, immunization, nutrition, non-communicable disease, and important work done during the Ebola epidemic in West Africa.

Dr. Kisia is a qualified and licensed doctor in Kenya with postgraduate degrees in public health and management. He has participated in global commissions and advisory committees looking at various issues such as leadership and legitimacy of INGOs, migration and the attendant humanitarian work, new and emerging epidemics, among others.

James’s interest ranges from mountain climbing (having climbed Mt. Kenya and Kilimanjaro twice) to environmental conservation (having planted 4,000 trees in the last five years). He also takes pride in coaching and mentoring young managers.
